Overview

Rita Young will lead this presentation which was developed from her personal and professional experiences. She will provide a safe space to explore answers to the following questions:

•     What are possible causes of challenging behaviors?

•     What is the caregiver’s perspective & support needs?

•     What are the relevant and available state resources that can help?

•     What type of help do families need from the community in order to help the child succeed?

A Q&A question session will follow the presentation.

Rita Young is a parent of two adult sons with autism has been a freelance consultant for the past nine years. Rita Young and Associates is a mission-driven company that provides training, advocacy, and project management services for initiatives that support vulnerable populations. Prior to creating her own company, Rita was a trainer, public policy director, and coalition builder for several nonprofit organizations that support individuals with developmental disabilities. During COVID, Rita started a Facebook group called Real Talk with Rita to offer encouragement and support to the developmental disability community. Rita then started a Real Talk with Rita YouTube channel and began recording interviews focused on supporting families of adult children with disabilities. To date, there are multiple interviews with state leaders and parents on a variety of topics like housing, support programs, and future planning.
